The Blob (1958-1988) Complete Archive Trilogy
The Blob franchise consists of three films: the 1958 sci-fi horror cult classic starring Steve McQueen, its 1972 campy comedy sequel Beware! The Blob, and the acclaimed 1988 special-effects-heavy remake.
Together, these films form a cult-favorite trilogy of outer-space gelatinous monsters.
The Blob (1958)The original independent film follows teenagers Steve Andrews (McQueen) and Jane Martin as they discover a crashed meteorite containing an amorphous, jelly-like creature. As the alien organism consumes local townspeople and grows in size, the teens struggle to convince the dismissive local authorities of the danger before it's too late. It is known for its iconic B-movie charm and bouncy title song by Burt Bacharach.
Beware! The Blob (1972)Also known as Son of Blob, this direct sequel shifts heavily into campy, satirical comedy. Directed by Dallas star Larry Hagman, the plot kicks off when a man brings home a frozen specimen from the North Pole, which thaws and begins to wreak suburban havoc. It features a large ensemble cast, including Shelley Berman, Dick Van Patten, and Cindy Williams.
The Blob (1988)Co-written by Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont, this big-budget remake is widely celebrated by the horror community as a masterpiece of 1980s practical effects. Instead of an alien origin, the creature is revealed to be a biological weapon created by a secret government project. The film is celebrated for its gripping pace, impressive gore, and strong performances by Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith
