Life on Mars (2006)

Months after a near-fatal car crash sends him hurtling back to the year 1973, police Detective Sam Tyler begins to give up hope that he'll return to his former life. Nonetheless, he rises through the ranks of the department, despite clashes with his morally lax boss, Detective Chief Inspector Gene Hunt. Sam gets a further surprise when a new member joins their team: Glenn Fletcher, a new recruit who, Sam knows, will grow into the chief inspector who mentors Sam back in his future life.

Ashes to Ashes (2008)

In 2008, Alex Drake, a female officer with London's Metropolitan Police, is shot. When she regains consciousness, she finds herself in the 1980s -- and is shocked to meet DCI Gene Hunt (the character featured in `Life on Mars'), an officer she's heard of largely through her research.

Life on Mars (2008) US Series

Adapted from a hit BBC programme, this genre-bending crime drama/buddy comedy/sci-fi fantasy revolves around modern-day police detective Sam Tyler, who awakens after a near-fatal car accident to discover that he has been thrown back through time to 1973, where he has to pursue police work with none of the 21st-century digital gadgets he's used to employing. Complicating things further, his boss is gruff Gene Hunt, a politically incorrect old-school cop who never hesitates to bend the rules when he deems it necessary - or even just convenient. Is Sam in a coma, or is something more fantastic behind his new reality?
